What Is a Tax Credit ?

A tax credit is an amount that you’re allowed to subtract from what you owe in taxes. When you pay college costs, you can subtract a certain amount from your tax bill later on. If your parents pay college expenses for you, they get the tax credit.

There are two different tuition tax credit programs. The amount of the credit varies and is subject to a number of rules, depending on which credit you use, what you use the money for, and what area of the country you live in. Your family may not claim more than one credit for the same student in any one year.

American opportunity tax credit: This credit replaces the Hope credit for 2011 and 2012. One difference is that families who owe very little tax or no tax (because their incomes are low) may be able to get some of the credit paid back to them directly. Also, the credit can be applied to course-related books and supplies, in addition to tuition and fees. The student must be in the first four years of post-secondary education and enrolled at least half-time in a program leading to an undergraduate degree or other legitimate education credential.

Lifetime learning credit: The money claimed must have been used for tuition and fees. This credit is available for undergraduate or graduate programs and for courses (even a single course) to acquire or improve job skills.

What are the other Sources of Funding ?

I applied to GIM Erasmus Mundus program and received a mail today saying I was selected for self-funded program and they have asked to confirm acceptance by the end of this month.

1. I had applied for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship ? How come they have selected me for the self funded program ?
2. Does this mean i am in the reserve list ?
3. What are the other sources of funding ?

It is better if you ask them directly. Usually if they ask for self-funded acceptance when you are admitted to the program and may or may not be in the reserve list to get the scholarship. If you are not interested in joining self-funded then clearly state that in your reply and mention that you are not able to afford the self-funded program and would rather like to wait if in the reserve list.
First remember that GIS program & Erasmus Mundus funding are 2 different things. If you are selected for GIS system its mean you are selected for program. But not funding.......
Of course you are on reserve list for scholarship but there is only 1% possibilities that you will be select for scholarship also. This will only happens if some person deny to join program.
Yes, there may b opportunity for local funding or some other funding..Also for mobility in this program u will be funded up to 300 euro.
According to my knowledge these are possibilities.

What is the difference between Resume and CV ?

The main difference between a resume and a CV is that a resume is short ( generally just one page ) and a CV is for the professional who has too many relevant experiences, awards, certifications, publications, etc.
A resume should not list every job you have ever had. If you are 40 years old, don't list the job you had at McDonald's back in the 80's.
However, if you are 40 years old but worked in the 80's as a professor's TA while working on your graduate degree(s), by all means, list that on your CV ! A resume is generally limited to the last 10 years but a cv lists all relevant experience, no matter the date. Put items in chronological order, but find ways to emphasize the most relevant experiences.
A CV is more detailed than a resume because the person with a CV has more experience, publications, presentations, etc.
